Rise of Applications from Indian Students to Canadian Universities

Surge of Indian Students at Canadian Universities

A BBC report says that there has been a sharp increase in applications to Canadian universities from Indian students this year. The University of Toronto itself has noted a rise of about 57 percent among applications from Indian students willing to pursue higher education in Canada.

One of the leading educational institutions in Canada, the University of Toronto has observed a 20 percent overall rise in international applications for admissions this year. The report mentioned Canada's friendly and welcoming attitude towards migrants as a favourable factor for the surge in applications from international students.

Canada has, at present, around 350,000 international students studying at several higher educational institutions all over the country. They now constitute about one percent of Canada's entire population. During the admission season each year, about 8 percent of the total number of students from all over the globe who apply for studying abroad, pick Canada as their chosen destination of higher education. This trend is exceptionally favourable for the country's economy that generates revenue of billions of dollars each year from the international students coming to study.

Ted Sargent, vice-president (International) at the University of Toronto, gave credit to the top-notch education system offered in the country while commenting on the vantage position of Canada as a chosen destination for study due to the ongoing political and economic turmoil in the UK and the US.
