Probation Lifts on MDCM Program

Probation Lifts on MDCM Program: Joy to Students of Medicine

The Committee on Accreditation of Medical Schools (CACMS) of Canada announced their confirmation on lifting probation on MDCM programs at McGill University on June 12, coming into effect immediately. The Faculty of Medicine at McGill University was joyful at the announcement as their hard work had paid off in lifting the probation. The program remains accredited to CACMS for an indefinite period as of now.

In the letter of confirmation to McGill University, CACMS mentioned that on the review of teaching standards, techniques, and policies of the Faculty, all were found to be "in compliance" with the monitoring pattern of CACMS. The diversity of student and leadership communities of the Faculty and supervision processes were essential factors in the CACMS review.

A survey team of CACMS had visited the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University earlier this year to conduct critical studies on the teaching and learning techniques as well as the infrastructure of the MDCM programs. The confirmation of the lifting of probation comes as a result of the survey report submitted by the team to CACMS. With further suggestions from the CACMS secretariat, the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University has been advised to comply with two further CACMS reviews detailing status report, scheduled in January 2019 and 2020 respectively.

David Eidelman, Vice-Principal (Health Affairs) and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University expressed his gratitude to his colleagues, students, non-teaching faculty, and all those associated with the Faculty for their constant support and dedication towards the Faculty. He also remarked that it was a milestone for the Faculty and announced plans to prepare students for the future of healthcare industries to the best of the Faculty's ability.
