CQU Creates 2017: Lively Artwork on Display for Art-Enthusiasts

Central Queensland University (henceforth to be known as CQU) encourages art-enthusiasts to visit ‘CQU Creates’, an art exhibition being held in CQU Rockhampton North Campus from August 2nd to 5th, 2017. No entry fee is required for attending the exhibition. Visitors can soak up on the art at the display from 9 AM to 4 PM until Friday along with the official opening on Friday from 6 PM to 8 PM. The viewing time for Saturday is from 9 AM to 1 PM.

Now in its fourth year on 2017, Central Queensland University Creates is a unique annual exhibition-cum-competition for interested artists having tie-ups with CQU. The colourful collection of paintings, drawings, prints, photographs, jewellery and the like by young and talented as well as famous regional artists make for an engaging display at the exhibition.

This year, there are 36 artworks at display at CQU Creates. As the fluid nature of art, the topics range from 50th anniversary of CQU Rockhampton North Campus to various social issues as well as depiction of nature and landscapes. Some artists have focused on themes of community importance like Aboriginal heritage and ANZAC history while some others have emphasised on environmental matters of concern like the gradual depletion of Great Barrier Reef. Socially empathetic themes such as homelessness are also on display at the exhibition.

The vice-chancellor of CQU, Professor Scott Bowman, said that CQU Creates endeavours to unite the CQU community through appreciation of art as well as provide a platform for highlighting emerging talent.
