First Confession: A Sort of Memoir

Chris Patten to speak at the launch of ‘First Confession’

The London School of Economics recently hosted the launch of Lord Chris Patten's latest book "First Confession: A Sort of Memoir". Lord Patter was supposed to speak at the event, and it was decided that he will speak about each phase of his life, education, America, conservatism, Ireland, China, Europe and finally the question of links between violence and religion. The event took place on the July 11 at the Old Theatre in the Old Building at the LSE. The event was chaired by Professor Kevin Featherstone, the Head of the European Institute, LSE.

Lord Patten is the current Chancellor of Oxford University. However, he has held some important designations in the past. Lord Patten has served as a British MP during the period of 1979 to 1992. He has also been the Minister for Overseas Development, Secretary of State for the Environment and Chairman of the Conservative Party. He was described as "the best Tory Prime Minister the country never had". Previously, he has penned some international best-sellers like East and West (1998), Not Quite the Diplomat: Home Truths About World Affairs (2005) and the latest book - First Confession: A Sort of Memoir.

The LSE European Institute (LSEEI) is a centre for research and graduate teaching on the processes of integration and fragmentation within the continent of Europe. The university was ranked first in the most recent national Research Excellence Framework (REF 2014) in its sector.
