Universities in United States

Till 2005, there were more than four thousand institutions that offer education on the American soil. Among the four thousand odd academic institutions, 629 were public 4-year institutions, 1,845 were private 4-year institutions, 1,070 public 2-year institutions and 596 private 2-year institutions. The number hasn’t changed much in the recent past. However, the recent travel ban on the people from six middle-eastern countries has caused a decline in the number of enrollments in US universities, and the number is causing tension among the college administrations. However, till the last year, USA was the most preferred destination for the international students, which proves that the quality of education and the standard of living are quite high in the United States of America. There are 8 American universities in the list of top ten universities in the world, and they are:

  • Harvard University (No.1)
  • Stanford University (No.2)
  • The University of California, Berkeley (No.3)
  • Massachusetts Institute of technology (No.5)
  • Princeton University (No.6)
  • California Institute of technology (No.8)
  • Columbia University (No.9)
  • University of Chicago (No.10)

This justifies why the USA has the most number of international students in the world. Apart from having the top academic institutions in the world, USA also offers a variety of diplomas and degrees to the international students which other countries fail to deliver. There are more than 700 master's degrees available in different universities the United States of America. Currently, there are more than 800,000 international students in the USA who are pursuing specific degree or diploma courses from one of the thousand of renowned American Universities.

In fall 2016, around 20.5 million students were expected to attend American Colleges and Universities which means there has been a growth of 5.2 million since 2000. The number of female students in US university and colleges has increased significantly. Around 7.2 million students were expected to attend 2-year institutions, while approximately 13.3 million students were expected to attend the 4-year institutions. According to sources, around 17.5 million students were expected to enrol in undergraduate programs, while around 3 million students were expected to enrol in post-baccalaureate programs.

Till 2016, US had the highest number of international students in the world, and there’s no surprise why students from different countries choose to pursue their higher studies on the American soil. Among the American states, California has the highest number of international students, i.e. around, 1,49,300, which is followed by New York with 114,300 international students. When it comes to individual institutes, New York University tops the chart with 155,000 international students and is followed by the University of Southern California with 133,000 international students.
< br/>A recent study shows a majority of these international students come from the Asian countries like China (31.5%), India (15.9%), Saudi Arabia (5.9%) and South Korea (5.8%).
